Band 7 Operational Manager (Breast, Burns and Plastics)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent operational manager within the breast, burns and plastics department at UHB. The post holder will be based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and be part of the CDG9 operational management team.
The Burns, Breast and Plastics departments will provide exposure to varied and interesting pathways, including regional burns network, cancer pathways for skin and breast, subspeciality work including scar management, and DIEP breast reconstruction.
The post holder will have input into cancer, RTT and emergency pathways, supporting the directorate to hit key national and local targets. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to be involved in key financial, quality and performance improvement programmes.
The breadth of the role provides an excellent opportunity for the ideal candidate to continue to develop their management skills with a view to work towards senior management roles.
Main duties of the job
The Operations Manager will work with the General Manager to provide business and managerial support in order that the activity, quality and financial objectives of the above are successfully delivered.
In particular the Operations Manager will focus on ensuring that patients receive treatment within NHS agreed waiting times by ensuring daily management of all of the key performance and national standards; RTT, Cancer 2WW, 62Day and the Tertiary referrals. The successful candidate will deputise for the General Manager when required.
To ensure the smooth management of all aspects of staff recruitment, training and competence and absence management to Trust standards.
Ensure accurate information is available and recorded monitoring the implementation of any agreed actions which need to be undertaken to ensure that targets are met. To be responsible for the line management of defined staff and teams.
The role demands excellent prioritisation skills, problem-solving abilities and a collaborative approach. You will have experience in management/leadership with an eye for detail and excellent interpersonal skills with proven experience of working operationally in an NHS environment.

• Good general level of education including core subjects at GCSE grades A -- C or equivalent

• Degree or equivalent professional Management qualification
• Further management training and/or relevant managerial experience to post graduate diploma level

• Previous experience of working to NHS key performance and national standards
• Experience in handling confidential information
• Experience with dealing with patients, relatives and the general public
• Previous line management experience of staff
• Working Knowledge of waiting list systems Knowledge of NHS and aims of its structure Knowledge of medical staffing issues
• Knowledge of all the PAS systems

• Experience of working to NHS key performance and national standards within Respiratory Medicine
• Experience in managing in-patient and outpatient waiting lists and designing and implementing mitigating actions as required
